sad childYears ago I read Getting the Love You Want by therapist and educator Harville Hendrix, and was really impressed. His book guides couples through a ten-week course designed to resolve their relationship problems. As the blurb on his book explains, Hendrix ‘shows how your frustrations originated in unmet childhood needs, and how you are unwittingly trying to resolve them with childhood tactics.’

And then I discovered the work of Dr John Demartini and his scientific-spiritual approach to growth and healing – an approach that requires us to recognise that others ‘out there’ are simply mirrors, reflecting back to us our own disowned traits. The more quickly we can ‘own’ and appreciate those traits, the more quickly we can transform challenging situations. Once again, many issues have their core in childhood.

I was chuffed to learn that Relationships Counsellor Karla van Biljon, who works with both of these approaches, experienced growing excitement as she read my Wanted: Greener Grass novel. She had found an entertaining book that she could recommend to her clients – a book that taught useful relationship principles through story!

Having met over Skype (Karla lives in South Africa), we agreed to have an interview-conversation in which we would learn more about each other’s work. The link to that conversation is here, and you’ll find out more about Karla’s work hereWillow Bloom cover 600

And speaking of childhood needs, your kids might be interested to read Willow Bloom and the Dreamkeepers by E.V. Farrell. This is an imaginative fantasy novel written by one of my editing clients. From the blurb: ‘Willow Bloom’s biggest challenge is to organise her thirteenth birthday party. However, a walk in the woods near her home provides some big surprises – a mysterious guardian from another world, a magical forest, and the discovery that her parents are part of a secret order that protects dreams.’ To learn more go here

If you’re after something for yourself, consider The Essence of You by another of my editing clients, Cheryne Blom. Cheryne’s book is about ‘taming your ego, discovering your authentic self and mastering your life’s purpose’. Pre-order your copy here.

Just celebrating my clients’ work and the rich and wonderful ideas and support systems out there for us and our inner children… Love and blessings to you and yours.
