Remember the fairy tale Aladdin and the wicked sorcerer’s attempt to get his magic lamp back by walking the streets and crying, “New lamps for old!”?

If you had an old lamp you could hand it in and be given a brand new one, an amazing deal for someone who wants a new lamp, and a handy ruse for someone who is trying to find a magic lamp…

It occurs to me that many of us are playing a similar game. We’ve been giving away old ideas that kept us healthy, in favour of new ones that, frankly, don’t. But the new ideas are shiny and have special features, and are much more trendy than the old ideas. Problem is, many of the new ideas cause harm.

You may have heard people say that they’re tired of having to ‘give up this and give up that’ in order to be healthy. Why can’t they just keep their habits without having to feel guilty every time they sit down to eat?

I was thinking about how upside-down that is. After all, before the explosive growth of the Food Industry, we ate simply, out of the garden and whatever people could catch and kill.

Then the ‘Great Modernisation’ happened:

• wholegrains were stripped of their fibre;

• sugar was added to everything;

• colourings and flavours were introduced (Did you know that ‘natural flavour’ is actually an artificial flavour? And flavours became anything you could imagine – ‘cookies-and-cream-flavoured ice cream’ by comparison with vanilla or chocolate, truly natural flavours that derive from plants);

• pesticides and herbicides and fertilisers were applied to large-scale farming to make processes more efficient and to boost productivity, triggering all sorts of ills (cancers, allergies and autism linked to glyphosate, for instance);

• animals were treated with hormones and antibiotics, and colourings were added to the dead stuff headed for supermarket shelves to make them look pink and fresh…

People say, ‘What are you going to take away now?’ but it was all added or swapped and tampered with. (Fish products show up in alcohol, and dairy products appear in canned fish – what?!)

Our current diet no longer matches what our bodies need. Our bodies don’t even know how to process some of the additives and chemically-engineered foods that we are eating; they dehydrate us and exhaust our adrenals. Sugar consumption has increased exponentially over the last hundred years. A friend who grew up on soft drinks has been wearing dentures since her 50s.

I’m sure that I don’t need to outline all the examples. ‘New’ food ideas that seem demanding and intrusive are actually just trying to get you back to the simpler habits that serve your body. ‘Back to nature’ doesn’t have to mean earth-floor shacks, but it does means more unprocessed whole foods, more sunshine, more exercise, more plain water… those time-honoured, common-sense factors that produce good health.

Ditto fake history. Written by the victors, the his-story we are familiar with, the one that feels comfortable, is often a house of cards when you start to look more closely.

Ditto scientific studies. If the study was funded by vested interests, we simply must question it. As I continue my research into Germ Theory, I learn that there are over 200 scientific studies proving that contagion/transmission of disease does not occur, and not one single study in over 150 years that proves it does.

I watched Dr Andrew Kaufman interviewing Dr Daniel Roytas about his new book, Can You Catch A Cold, in which he referred to the above situation. The problem is our programming: Kim Iverson interviewed Dr Tom Cowan, author of The Contagion Myth, about Germ Theory, and despite him conveying the same facts to her, she seemed to consider them to be just his opinion, or lacking sufficient evidence. 200 studies is not sufficient evidence?! Not a single study proving contagion is not sufficient evidence?! Dr Cowan was both frustrated and amused by her lack of logic.

Our programming has been so thorough that we cannot extricate ourselves from the belief system that we catch colds and pass on illnesses. There is a solid explanation behind what is actually happening, but it requires a ‘new mind’. I’m delving into all of this for my health musical – more news on that soon.

Likewise, our programming via school and media has been so thorough that we feel entitled to eat whatever we want and let our bodies figure it out. Our bodies weren’t designed for the onslaught we are delivering, if we have taken on the coloured, sweetened, flavoured, chemically-treated, genetically-altered, so-called ‘foods’ that stock supermarket shelves today.

We’re all pretty clear that we need to keep our bodies clean on the outside; why is it so difficult to comprehend that we must do the same on the inside?

It turns out that shiny new lamps turn out to be not nearly as functional as the old ones.
