The process we went through in finding the right cover for this book was very drawn-out and frustrating! You just wouldn’t believe how many concepts we explored before we ended up with the gorgeous cover we now have. I reckon, all up, close to 15 ideas. One of them ocurred to me at 2 o’clock in the morning. I got out of bed and sat on my office floor sketching and cutting and pasting and thought I’d found it! But there was always something that wasn’t quite working, whether it was with the cover, the title, or the subtitle.
Anyway, we finally got there, thanks to the artistic ability of a young Indonesian art student called Mira Tjakraatmadja. (Trish Curtis, a friend who knew I was looking for cover art suggested Bronwyn, a friend of hers who is an art teacher, and Bronwyn offered the opportunity to three students who each sent me samples of their work. Mira’s leapt out at me because I was looking for a contemporary style.)
If you’d like to reach her to discuss some artwork needs of your own, you can call her on 0424 236 623 or email her.
Mira is an Indonesian graphic designer and illustrator based in Melbourne pursuing her Bachelor Degree in Communication Design at RMIT. Having a passion for painting ever since she was young she is now enjoying the opportunity to explore and learn about graphic illustration. She has a minimalist style using vibrant colours.
Thank you, Mira, for so beautifully capturing the cover I wanted, and more power to you as you launch your career as an artist.
