Since we are almost upon the merry season, it seems timely to revisit the topic of Jesus.
If you’ve been reading my blogs, you’ll know that I’ve been following the research of Jason Breshears, an ex-con who used his years in prison productively to study the Bible and compare it with historical narratives.*
Jason’s research indicated that the Jesus of the Gospels did not exist. There was not a man in those times who was born of a virgin, walked on water, performed miracles, whose face matches the Turin Shroud, etc. That story is recognised by many Biblical scholars as being simply that: a story. Literature with a message.
However something I value about Jason’s approach to research is that he is open to being corrected, and he recently interviewed a historian by the name of Ralph Ellis who explained that there was a Jesus in those times, and he was a king – the King of Edessa in Northern Syria.

According to Ellis’s research, this monarch’s story matches many of the points presented about the Biblical Jesus, but without the ‘fairy story’ aspects. His broad and deep research connects many elements of the Jesus narrative(s) with facts from history, but also finds no evidence for the miracles.
For example, Jesus’s thorn of crowns was the ceremonial crown of the Edessan monarchy, and his hair was red, not black; he was the leader of the famous Jewish Revolt against Rome; he was crucified but rescued and taken far away to a fortress in England; he lived into his 50s. As for the various miracles, they have simple explanations, including a vase known about in that era that converted water to wine as a type of parlour trick.
How does King Arthur fit into this?
The Knights Templar was a secret society set up to keep the story of Jesus safe, and Ellis claims that they did so by putting the chief elements into the Arthurian Legend.
Jesus and the Twelve Disciples…
King Arthur and the Twelve Knights of the Round Table…
I haven’t read his book, but I’ve heard Ralph Ellis being interviewed a couple of times now, and read his lengthy and detailed engagement in the ‘LibraryThing’ chat with several detractors. It certainly seems to me that he knows his history.
The Catholic Church destroyed the Knights Templar – a clue? – and Ralph Ellis believes that his book is one they have been dreading for 1700 years. If you enjoy history, you might like to delve further.
But there’s more!
He states that Christianity is ‘simple Judaism’, aka Judaism without the 512 (?) laws and precepts. There’s just one instruction, the famous, ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’
Great advice until you tumble down the John Lamb Lash rabbit hole and read his magnificent work, Not In His Name – Gnostic Vision, Sacred Ecology, and the Future of Belief. (I’ve mentioned this one in a previous blog, too.)

Lash describes the dedicated attack on the pagan, matriarchal Gnostics of ancient times by the Jewish Zaddakite sect; and, since then, the attacks on the many indigenous and pagan peoples of the world by the Judaeo-Christian complex. ‘Intolerance is endemic to the Abrahamic religions.’ – p 269.
He quotes many of YHWH’s distasteful statements about destroying and annihilating his enemies – sound like a loving God to you? – and shows how the salvationist ideologies perpetuate cycles of abuse.
I won’t indulge further, other than to make this point: all three of these men invite us to reconsider what we have been taught by the established religions. Natural Law does not require external moral instruction; we instinctively, intuitively know what is right and wrong.
• The principle ‘Do no harm’ is partnered by the idea that we should leave others alone to live their own lives their way unless they harm us, and they should leave us alone unless we harm them.
• “We love spontaneously, through the power of love itself, which cannot be commanded.” – p. 250
A heretic is ‘one who chooses’. The Greek ‘heraisthai’ means ‘to choose’, which includes our beliefs and our lifestyle. I salute your heresies!
I hope you found this interesting. Please comment on the blog if you have some thoughts to share.
*A minor offence was impacted by presidential corruption and resulted in a very long incarceration for Jason Breshears. He is completely open about the details. His site is www.archaix.com if you want to learn more or watch his interviews with Ralph Ellis or John Lamb Lash.
Some Gifts that Keep On Giving…
I can’t offer you gold, frankincense or myrrh, but I am the author of several books that make wonderful gifts (whether for the current festive season or a birthday or something else…).
I’ve been shamefully slack about marketing these literary children of mine, and am planning to resurrect (‘scuze the pun) my business in 2026. More on that later, but meanwhile, here’s a quick summary in case something here is a match with what you or someone you love would appreciate.

| Thank you for your support and messages in 2025. I hope you have a sacred and beautiful transition into 2026, and a fulfilling, enriching year. |
